Anand Li

Instructor

Anand Li Anand Li has already displayed his talent in conducting when he was a music student. As a guest conductor, he collaborated with Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, Millennium Youth Orchestra, Millennium Green Orchestra, Millennium Conductors Orchestra, and Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra, as well as Harmony Tree International and the American Chamber of Commerce. He now serves as conductor of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra (Haydn Orchestra) and Part-time lecturer in Music Education at Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Music. Dedicating himself to music education, he conducts the youth chamber orchestra and the children symphony orchestra of Ponte della Musica, as well as various school orchestras, which, under his baton, won prizes at competitions including Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows, and earned high acclaim at public performances. He is now a member of National Association of Music Education, American String Teachers Association, and an examiner of public music exam in Hong Kong and overseas. To pursue his passion as a music educator, he obtained his Master of Music in Music Education at Boston University and studying his Doctor of Education at University of South Carolina. Majored in music composition, Anand obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Hon.) degree in Music from the Hong Kong Baptist University. He was also awarded the Best Student of Concentration Studies Scholarship for his outstanding academic performance. Moreover, he was the recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Talent Development Scholarship, which recognized his talent in music and performing arts. Anand began to learn conducting with Dr. Jennifer Ho, and later with Mr. Choi Ho Man and Dr. Law Po Kwan at courses offered by the university, where he was also selected to participate in masterclass given by renowned conductor Mikko Franck. Anand is keen on playing violin and viola. He learnt violin with Lung Heung Fai since young, and viola with Dr. Felix Ungar. He has obtained the LTCL diploma in viola performance and participated in viola masterclass by Allan Nilles.

Program Structure

The ARSM Diploma program consists of 3 units: Unit 1A - Music Teaching in Practice Students will record a 30-minute video of themselves teaching a full music lesson or session. The video submission will be supported by lesson plans, contextual information, and a self-reflection. Focus is on demonstrating student-centered teaching strategies, musical communication skills, and reflective practice. Unit 1B - Music Teaching in Context Students will complete short written tasks displaying their knowledge of wider issues in music education, professional responsibilities, and teaching approaches. Unit 2 - Reflective Practice & Professional Values Students will have a 30-minute professional discussion with an examiner about their teaching experience, philosophy, and insights.

Curriculum

4 courses, 28-week

The curriculum will cover core competencies in music teaching including 4 modules/courses. The curriculum will provide a solid foundation in teaching methods while allowing flexibility for educators to focus on their particular specialties and interests.
